William J. “Bill” Zirngible, 70, of Medford, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021 at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford with Fr. Patrick Mc- Connell officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 6 at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home in Medford, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Rosary Church.

Bill was born Sept. 25, 1951 in Medford to Albert and Lila (Carlson) Zirngible. He graduated from Medford High School, class of 1969. He attended UW-Stevens Point, Medford branch.

On June 17, 1972, he married his dancing partner, Candice “Candy” Spreen at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford. Starting out in Madison, Bill delivered papers for the Wisconsin State Journal, and after returning to Medford in 1974 he worked for Spreen Construction, and then in production at Weather Shield, and lastly, at Phillips Medisize until his retirement.

Bill had so many interests, including hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, 4-wheeling, golfing, snowmobiling, playing cribbage, and making pickles and jam. He enjoyed military history, and watching football, especially when the Packers were playing. He had a thirst for knowledge, could fix just about anything, and was often referred to as “Google Bill.” He was Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 336 for 4 years, and helped both his boys achieve their Eagle. He was a member of Black River Rock Dodgers Snowmobile Club and Central Wisconsin Country Dancers. He and Candy taught country dancing for many years in the area and met many dear friends along the way. His big love was spending time with his family and friends.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Medford.

Bill is survived by his wife of 49 years, Candy of Medford; two sons, Justin (Carrie) of Medford, Nathan (Mary Ann) of Antigo; siblings, Russell (Sue) Zirngible of Owatonna, Minn., Janille Zirngible of Westboro; mother-in-law, Eleanor Spreen of Medford; grandchildren, Conner Zirngible of Medford, Erin (Dillon) West of Antigo, Danielle (Brandon Webb) Philipps, Kailee (T.J. Kloehn) Philipps, all of Antigo; two great-grandchildren, Payton and Kayden Philipps of Antigo; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; fatherin- law, Neil Spreen Sr.; sister, LaVonne Zenner; and sister-in-law, Debra Kapfhamer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated and will be designated at a later time.
