Janis Tischendorf

1932-2021

Janis Tischendorf, of Antigo, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021, at Rosalia Gardens under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. She was 89 years old. She was born on Sept. 13, 1932, in Portage County, a daughter of John and Pearl (Havitz) Martens. She married Keith Tischendorf on Dec. 23, 1951, in Colby. He preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 1985.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Nov. 8, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Antigo with Rev. David Karolus officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the church. A graveside service will be held on Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the Dorchester Memorial Cemetery.

She was a graduate of Mosinee High School, class of 1950. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point in 1954.

Mrs. Tischendorf was both a teacher in oneroom schoolhouses and kindergarten, having taught in Dancy, Milan, and Dorchester. Following her retirement in 2000, she moved to Antigo.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, the Dorcus Society, and led a bible study group called Christ Care Group. She enjoyed music and sang in the church choir. She was a volunteer at Aspirus Langlade Hospital and was a member of the Antigo Music Association.

She opened her heart and her home to family, friends, and neighbors. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and canning.

Survivors include two daughters, Carla (Adrian) Langhus of Fountain Hills, Ariz. and Camala (Gary) Bedroske of Oshkosh; a son, Eric (Lori) Tischendorf of Antigo; seven grandchildren, Jacob and Maralyse, Adric and Nevin, Dane, Noelle, and Makayla; three great-grandchildren, Boone, Naomi, and Iaean.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Joyce Radtke, Joann Martens, Rita Mossing, and Donna Lomis; and a brother, Donald Martens.
