Carol Jean Gosse, 84, of Medford, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2021 at Comforts of Home in Marshfield surrounded by her family and while under the care of
Heartland Hospice. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021 at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home in Medford. Burial followed at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Medford.
Visitation was from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 26 at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home, and again Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., all at the funeral home.
Carol was born Jan. 9, 1937 in Medford to Inez (Amo) and Ed Loertscher. They resided in Medford and Carol graduated from Medford High School, class of 1955. On Dec. 1, 1956, Carol married Merle “Squirrely” Gosse in a double wedding with Carol’s sister Joan, in Medford.
Carol enjoyed sewing and was a talented seamstress, making things from wedding dresses to recovering furniture; quilting; crafting; playing cards; and doing puzzles. She loved to be outside doing yard work, watching the birds, mowing and tending to her flower beds. She also had fun attending the Hodag Festival every year and cheering on the Whittlesey Reds Baseball Team. Of all the things Carol was good at doing, her greatest job was that of being a mother and grandmother. She cherished time with her family and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include two children, Steve Gosse of Withee, Sheila Gosse of Medford; siblings, Joan Brintnall of Rochester, Minn., Allyn “Red” (Lucy) Loertscher of Whittlesey, Janice (Bob) Werner of Marshfield, Ron (Ailene) Loertscher of Unity, Jeanie Thomas of Marshfield; sister-inlaw, Judy Loertscher of Lac du Flambeau; beloved grandchildren, Tracy (Rick) Price, Davis (Jessica) Gosse, all of Medford, Sydney (Jared) Plautz of Birnamwood, Seth Oliver of Wausau; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Tristan, Lidainian, Zachary and Jax; one great-great-grandson, Aiden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Squirrely on Jan. 22, 2009; siblings, Harlan, Gloria and Valgene Loertscher; and brothersin- law, Lloyd Brintnall and Doug Thomas.
Carol’s family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the staff of Comforts of Home in Marshfield for their care, kindness and love given to Carol during her stay there.
