A little lesson on dirt tracks

A little lesson on dirt tracks A little lesson on dirt tracks

I was at the dirt track races the other day. Dirt track races are one of mine and my families hobbies. I got into dirt track racing when I was like nine years old. Honestly, I was maybe younger than that, but we’re just going to go with nine. My dad would say “Hey, let’s go to the races.” My brother and I would be down for it, but my mom would be “ehhh” about it, like “Do I really have to go?” She would go with, but wouldn’t enjoy the loudness of the cars. I have a cousin that used to work on dirt track cars, and he got me into dirt track racing.

Now, there are many types of dirt track racing cars. There are late models, modified, hornets and sprint cars. The ones my family and I go watch are late models and sprint cars. Let me tell you, those cars are speedy fast. The company they run under, “The World of Outlaws,” runs the fastest cars on dirt in the world. If you don’t believe me, look it up.

When my family and I go to the races we get close to the same spot every year. In the spot that we sit at, we get a dirt, dust, mud and rock bath at the same time. Last time we went to the races was the first time rocks flew up at us. Usually there aren’t any rocks on the track. Also where we sit we’ve have so many arguments with Minnesota people.

We borrowed a banner from one of the fences on the track, and they were making a big deal about it. The people who own the track throw all the banners and signs away once the racers leave the speedway. Borrowing two banners isn’t going to kill anyone. When these people were arguing with us, this older couple said what I said: “All the speedway staff is going to do is throw them away, so if I were you I’d go take those banners and signs too, and hang them up in your garage.” Then a full-out argument happened.

There’s never really a dull moment when you go to the races. That and the crashes that happen. It really depends on the cars. The sprint cars will literally fly in the air, do a spin or two, and then land. During a sprint car crash, one of the tires exploded, went flying in the air, stayed in the air about three seconds, and then came back down. When we left the speedway, there was part of the tire, and now I have it. I now have a sprint car tire displayed on my dresser.

You have to go to the races a least once in your life. It is so worth your money, but maybe not your hearing, so if you do ever decide to go, bring ear plugs because those cars are really loud. Every year around July 4th, The World of Outlaws comes to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond. It’s a really good show.

“World of Outlaws, The fastest show on dirt.”

GO FOR IT!
