Track and field athletes advance
Though they faced some tough competition at the WIAA Division 3 regional track and field meet held on June 14 in Colby, there will be at least a few representatives from the Loyal, Spencer, Greenwood and Granton track teams at the Sectional meet at Boscobel on June 17. The top four athletes from each event are moving on to the next round of competition, and this season’s group of qualifiers is made up of a healthy mix of athletes from several different events.
Loyal track athletes that will be competing in Boscobel on Thursday are: -- Savannah Schley in the 400m dash (1st, 1:01.86), the 800m run (2:25.67) and 100m dash (3rd, 13.13).
-- Abrial Kubista in the triple jump (1st, 32’10.5”) and in the 100m hurdles (3rd, 18.78).
-- Aubre Robida, who placed first in the 100m dash with a time of 12.97.
-- Alyssia Zvolena, who jumped 4’11” in the high jump for first at regionals.
-- Haven Peroshek, who took second in the shot put (31’8”).
-- Kaden Olson will compete in the 110m hurdles (2nd, 19.15).
-- Seth Genteman will run the 800m run after taking second at Regionals with a time of 2:09.34.
-- Leah Scherer, who was third in the 200m dash with a time of 28.02.
-- Sully Hanson, who took third in the 100m dash (11.85) -- Margaret Reis will compete in the pole vault (3rd, 8’6”).
-- Shalisha Buchanan will compete in the discus after taking third at regionals (86’8”).
-- The girls 4X200m relay team of Abrial Kubista, Sheila Tellock, Aubre Robida and Leah Scherer, which took first with a time of 1:52.53.
-- The girls 4X100m relay team of Leah Scherer, Sheila Tellock, Aubre Robida and Alyssia Zvolena, which took first with a time of 52.32.
-- David Nikolai, Kaden Olson, Jaden Ruggles and Sully Hanson, who ran both the 4X100m relay and the 4X200m relay. They took third in the 4X100m with a time of 50.04 and fourth in the 4X200m relay with a time of 1:45.01.
-- The 4X400m relay team of Alyssia Zvolena, Miranda Trade, Haven Peroshek and Sheila Tellock, which took fourth with a time of 4:47.03.
Members of the Spencer track team who placed in the top four at regionals and will move on to compete at the sectional event are: -- Leah Zastrow in the 100m hurdles (1st, 16.04) in the pole vault (1st, 11’1”) and in the 300m hurdles (4th, 53.58).
-- Cameron Nieman, who jumped 5’6” in the high jump to take third at regionals.
-- Connor Clark, who took third in the pole vault (10’).
-- Kaizer Eickleberry, who took third in the 300m hurdles with a time of 49.14.
-- Alexander Baumgarten will compete in the pole vault after taking third (10’).
-- Elliot Bauer, who finished fourth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.96.
-- Elisha Blanchard, who took fourth in the discus with a throw of 85’2”.
-- The boys 4X100m team of Alexander Baumgarten, Landon Behselich, Connor Clark and Will Gorst, which placed second with a time of 47.95.
-- The boys 4X400m relay team of Elliott Bauer, Alexander Baumgarten, Kaizer Eickleberry and Cameron Nieman, which took second with a time of 3:57.59.
-- The boys 4X200m relay team of Alexander Baumgarten, Malachai Anderson, Kaizer Eickleberry and Cameron Nieman, which finished third at regionals with a time of 1:44.07.
Greenwood athletes that qualified for sectionals are: -- Ashtin Palms, who qualified in the 300m hurdles (1st, 44.23) and in the 110m hurdles (3rd, 19.27).
-- Nathan Revier, who took first place in the triple jump (40’8”) and third in the 400m dash (57.98) at regionals.
-- Christian Thomas, who placed fourth in both the 110m hurdles (20.29) and in the 300m hurdles (50.85).
-- Avrey Horvath, who was fourth in the 3200m run with a time of 11:32.47.
-- Kia Abel, who ran a 52.64 in the 300m hurdles for third.
-- The boys 4X800m relay team of Avrey Horvath, Christian Thomas, Cody Eckes and Ashtin Palms, which placed third with a time of 9:48.56.
From Granton, athletes moving on to sectional competition on Thursday are: -- Ashlee Piskow, who placed third in both the 1600m run (6:23.03) and in the 3200m run (13:55.16).
-- Kristin Strey, who took third in the 400m dash with a time of 1:09.51.
-- The 4X800m relay team of Olivia Piskow, Ashlee Piskow, Dolorosa Thomas and Faustina Thomas, which placed fourth with a time of 13:08.12.
There were several athletes and relay teams from the Loyal, Spencer, Greenwood and Granton track teams that also competed and scored points at the regional meet, but failed to finish within the top four to move on. The girls 4X100m relay team of Lydia Nieman, Bristol Engevold, Haylee Hopperdietzel and Faith Miller took fifth place at Colby with a time of 56.38.

The girls 4X200m relay team of Kia Abel, Riley Gardner, Lauren Ingold and Rylan Lindner took fifth place with a time of 2:06.92.
From Granton: Kristin Strey, 6th, 800m run, 2:48.26; Dolorosa Thomas, 6th, 300m hurdles, 1:00.18; Faustina Thomas, 8th, 400m dash, 1:19.31.
The Loyal girls took second place at Regionals, earning 138 points. Other teams competing at the event were Colby (155), Auburndale (91), Pittsville (59), Abbotsford (57), Columbus Catholic (46), Spencer, which took seventh with 40 points, Granton, which took eighth with 30 points, Greenwood, which placed ninth with 24 points, Assumption (22) and Port Edwards (3).
For the boys, Spencer earned 63 points to take fourth place overall, finishing behind Pittsville (70), Auburndale (123) and Colby (144). Greenwood took fifth place with 58 points, Columbus Catholic was sixth (56), Abbotsford was seventh (50), Assumption took eighth (47), Loyal took ninth with 46 points and Port Edwards was 10th (4).
