Kuhn among allstars to play in June 9 Border Bash

The seventh annual Kiwanis Classic Border Bash All-Star Basketball Games will be held Wednesday, June 9 at Northland Pines High School in Eagle River.

Medford’s Peyton Kuhn will play for the Wisconsin all-star squad, which will take on a team of all-stars from northern Michigan.

After each team gets an hour-long practice in the afternoon, the girls allstar teams from Wisconsin and Michigan will play their game at 5:30 p.m. After the girls awards ceremony, the boys game will follow at about 7 p.m., followed by that ceremony.

The games are open to the public. Both games will be played with 26-minute halves.

Rosters for the games were released Tuesday. Kuhn will play on a team that includes Quinn Lamers and Ross Skeen from Medford’s Great Northern Conference rival Rhinelander. Cade Faber of Abbotsford, Hunter Ingles of Winneconne, Dylan Lisita of Wisconsin Rapids, Richie Murphy of Cameron, Dawson Nordgaard of West De Pere and Weston Peplinski of Stevens Point Pacelli are also on the Wisconsin roster. Dan Witter of Wisconsin Rapids is the team’s head coach.

Rhinelander’s Ryan Clark is the head coach of the Wisconsin girls team, which also has GNC representation from Rebecca Lawrence of Rhinelander and Amaya White of Lakeland. Medford basketball and track and field standout Marissa Fronk was among the list of initial players invited to play.

The northern Wisconsin and northern Michigan squads have split both the boys and girls series so far with three wins apiece. Past Border Bash games have featured Austin Salzgeber, Osy Ekwueme and Desirae Weissmiller of Medford and Katie Cardey of Rib Lake.
