Two years after reclaiming top status, the Chequamegon Screaming Eagles made sure they kept it, easily outscoring the opposition in Friday’s Northwoods Quad, hosted by Rib Lake.

Chequamegon combined their boys and girls results to score 227 total points in the meet, while Phillips held off the home team 108-94 for second. Prentice took fourth with 68 points in the fun meet between nearby Marawood North rivals that serves as Rib Lake’s lone home meet of the season.

The Redmen got wins from its 400-meter relay team and from Hannah Schuh in the discus in girls competition, while Ashton Keiser won the long jump for the team’s lone win on the boys side of the meet.

The girls accounted for 62 of Rib Lake’s 94 points and 17 of those points came from the shot and discus crew.

Schuh’s winning throw in the discus carried 68 feet, 3 inches, which put her 11 inches ahead of Hannah Walker of Phillips. Prentice’s Serena Moore was third at 61-10, while Rib Lake’s Emma Winter was fourth at 55-4 and Grace Artz eighth at 45-6.

Lauren Pelnis and Winter both got marks of 28-2.75 in the shot put to earn second and third place behind Walker’s throw of 30-11.5. Schuh took fourth at 2610.5 and Artz was fifth at 21-6.5. Winter, Schuh and Artz all set season-best distances.

Pelnis, Ryanna Schrader, Olivia Lopez and Amber Yanko teamed up to win the 400-meter relay in 58.1 seconds, which was Rib Lake’s best time of the spring. The Redmen beat Phillips by 1.4 seconds and Chequamegon by 6.9 seconds. The team of Jolee Gehrke, Haley Scotty, Schrader and Lopez was third in the 800-meter relay at 2:10 behind Phillips (2:02) and Chequamegon (2:03).

The 1,600-meter relay team of Megan Yanko, Pelnis, Nadia Czahor and Kylee Goodrich ended the meet with a muchimproved time of 5:06, good for second behind Phillips (4:38) and ahead of Chequamegon (5:28).

Gehrke cleared 4-6 to place second in the high jump, hit 10-7.75 to take third in the long jump and ran the 300-meter low hurdles in a season-best 53.6 seconds to place third in that event. Megan Yanko sprinted to second place in the 100-meter dash at 14.01 seconds, while Lopez was third at 14.12 seconds and Julia Dananay came in at 17.7 seconds. All times were season bests. Yanko was a tenth of a second behind Stacy Backstrom of Phillips. Yanko was third in the 400-meter dash at 1:13 and Czahor was fifth in 1:16, seasonbest times for both.

Goodrich earned a pair of distance thirds. She ran the 1,600-meter race in 6:31 and the 800 in 2:54. Czahor was sixth in the 800 at 3:05.

Pelnis added a third-place time of 32.09 seconds in the 200-meter dash, which was won by Chequamegon’s Taylor Pritzl in 29.6 seconds. Scotty was fourth in 32.7 seconds and Dananay finished in 39.5 seconds.

Lopez got the fifth-place point in the triple jump at 23-10.75.

The long jump was the highest-scoring event for Rib Lake’s boys. Keiser’s leap of 17-4 won it by 4.25 inches over Chequamegon’s Gabe Howes. Dominick Classen got the fifth-place point at 16-7.5. Damien Peterson and Theo Robisch hit 13-8 and 13-5, respectively. Robisch later took fourth in the triple jump at 30-8.5, while Peterson jumped 28-5 and Xavier Johnson jumped 25 feet even.

Keiser added second-place finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. His time of 12.06 seconds in the 100 put him 0.4 seconds behind Chequamegon’s Zach Poetzl. Ethan Keiser missing scoring by 0.07 seconds, taking sixth in 12.79 seconds. Ashton Keiser ran the 200 in 24.7 seconds, a half-second behind Poetzl. Ethan Keiser was fifth in 26.6 seconds and Jayden Thums finished in 30.6 seconds for the Redmen.

Ashton Keiser, Noah Wiitala, Ethan Keiser and Classen took second in the 400-meter relay in 49.9 seconds, one notso- smooth handoff and 0.2 seconds be- hind Chequamegon. They beat Phillips by 0.7 seconds. Ryan Buehler, Wiitala, Ben Petersen and Robisch finished the meet with a third-place time of 4:12 in the 1,600-meter relay behind Chequamegon (3:52) and Phillips (3:55).

Bud Schreiner placed in both throwing events, taking third in the shot put at 34-3.75 behind Logan Sarkkinen of Prentice (39-8) and Thomas Mineau of Chequamegon (36-10.25). Brandon Heiser was seventh for Rib Lake at 26-3. Schreiner got the fifth-place point in the discus at 78-6, while Heiser’s best throw went 72-6.

Petersen needed one minute to run the 400-meter dash, good for fourth place, 3.6 seconds behind winner Cade Zierer of Phillips. Buehler was fourth in the 1,600-meter run at 5:43. Chequamegon’s Isaiah Dietz won in 5:11.

All four teams will be among the nine competing today, Thursday, in a meet at Phillips that starts at 4:30 p.m. Rib Lake will be at Newman Catholic in Wausau Tuesday for a 4 p.m. meet.
