Competing first against a field of larger schools, and again against teams of similar size, the Greenwood track athletes are trying to find their niche as the season begins to shape up. Though not many of their athletes were able to score points at the Marathon invite on May 3, the team had much better success competing at Neillsville on May 6.

At Marathon, the Indian girls had two athletes place within the top eight. Rylan Lindner finished fourth in the 800m run (3:00.05) and fifth in the 1600m run (6:39.89) while Kia Abel took fifth in the 400m dash (1:12.34). The girls also had a relay team place. The 4X100m relay team of Tora Degenhardt, Riley Gardner, Lauren Ingold and Sierra Myers ran a 1:03.65 to take fourth.

The Greenwood girls placed seventh out of eight teams on May 3, finishing with 18 points as a team. Other teams competing at Marathon were Marathon (156), Mosinee (134), Edgar (115), Three Lakes/Phelps (78.5), Pittsville (62), Abbotsford (53.5), and Laona-Wabeno (17).

The boys had a few runners also place within the top eight. Avrey Horvath scored points in two events, taking third in the 1600m run (5:17.28) and eighth in the 800m run (2:30.43). Nathan Revier was third in the triple jump (39’4.5”) and Ashtin Palms placed seventh in the 800m run (2:29.04).

The Indian boys had two relay teams compete and place at Marathon. The 4X800m relay team of Cody Eckes, Avrey Horvath, Ashtin Palms and Christian Thomas took second with a time of 10:21.76. The 4X200m relay team, consisting of Cody Eckes, Ashtin Palms, Nathan Revier and Christian Thomas placed fourth, running a 1:47.60.

The Greenwood boys earned 28 points to take eighth place at the invite. Other teams scoring were Laona-Wabeno (31), Abbotsford (36), Pittsville (41), Three Lakes/ Phelps (68), Mosinee (76), Edgar (164), and Marathon (214). Greenwood was at Neillsville on May 6, with more individuals placing within the top eight. For the girls, two earned first-place finishes. Kia Abel ran the 300m hurdles in 58.3 for her win while Lauren Ingold threw for a distance of 27’8.5” in the shot put to take hers. The Indian girls also had a 4X200m relay team place, they finished second with a time of 2:12.3.

Individual results for the Greenwood girls are as follows: Kia Abel, 2nd, 100m hurdles, 20.6; Lauren Ingold, 6th, 100m dash, 15.6; Rylan Lindner, 2nd, 800m run, 2:59.9, 8th, 100m dash, 15.7; Riley Gardner, 6th, 100m dash, 15.6; Katlund Etlicher, 5th, 800m run, 3:18.9.

The Greenwood girls earned 36 points on May 6 to take fourth place as a team. Other teams competing at Neillsville were Neillsville (102.5), Columbus Catholic (69), Granton (40), and Osseo-Fairchild (29.5).

The Greenwood boys only had one first-place finisher at Neillsville, but many other individuals placed second or third in their events. Nathan Revier won the triple jump, leaping a distance of 38’3.25” for the win. The team also had a 4X400m relay team which placed second with a time of 4:13.4.

Individual results for the Greenwood boys are as follows: Nathan Revier, 2nd, 200m dash, 25.1, 3rd, long jump, 18’1”; Ashtin Palms, 2nd, 100m dash, 12.5, 2nd, 300m hurdles, 48.7; Cody Eckes, 2nd, 400m dash, 1:06.6, 4th, 800m run, 2:45.2; Christian Thomas, 3rd, 100m dash, 13.0, 3rd, 300m hurdles, 50.2; Avrey Horvath, 3rd, 800m run, 2:29.0, 5th, 1600m run, 5:19.4; Caden Artman, 5th, shot put, 21’.

The Indian boys earned 52 points at Neillsville, placing third as a team. Other teams scoring points were Neillsville (149), Columbus Catholic (75), Columbus B (24), and Osseo-Fairchild (16).
