Glenn Herrmann
Glenn C. Herrmann, age 84, of Minocqua, formerly of Colby, passed away at the Marshfield Medical Center on Wedneday, Feb. 3, 2021, after a short illness.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021, at First United Church of Christ in Colby. The funeral will be live streamed on the funeral home’s Facebook page or after service anytime on Facebook or the website. Pastor Teri Hanson will preside. Interment will follow the service at the Colby Memorial Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. We encourage those in attendance to abide by the COVID-19 guidelines by sanitizing, wearing a mask (if able) and social distancing. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby is entrusted with the arrangements.
Glenn was born on January 27, 1937, in the Town of Colby, the son of Alfred and Elsie (Volkman) Herrmann. He attended Colby schools and was a 1955 graduate of Colby High School. Glenn served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1959, served in Korea and was stationed in South Carolina and served in the reserves for two years. He enjoyed flying so much that he got his pilot’s license in the 1970’s. His first marriage took place on April 10, 1964, to the former Darlene Pfeffer in Pine City, Minn. She preceded in death on December 20, 2005. His second marriage was to Charlene Krueger in Rhinelander on December 21, 2017.
Glenn worked as a heavy equipment operator for Harold House Construction, James Peterson Construction and Reliance Construction building roads all over Wisconsin. After his retirement he worked for Harmony Coop as a truck driver for the fertilizer plant and was a sexton for the Colby Memorial Cemetery. He also drove heavy equipment for the American Legion Camp near Minocqua. He was a member of First United Church of Christ in Colby and the Operating Engineers Local 139.
Glenn enjoyed traveling, flying, building model airplanes, bird watching, spending time with his dogs: Niles, Bumper and Elle. Glenn and Charlene loved the outdoors and nature in the Northwoods, but especially cherished the time spent with family and his three grandsons.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Charlene Krueger of Minocqua;daughter,Peggy(Daniel)Zimmerman of Loyal; grandsons: Luke Zimmerman of Silvis, Ill., and Ben and Zach Zimmerman of Loyal; stepchildren: Mechelle (Dave) Krueger of Milwaukee and Sandra Krueger of Wausau; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Darlene; and siblings: Richard Herrmann, Evelyn Ven Rooy and Verna Blair.
