Cadott drops dual at home
In the third home dual this season, the Cadott wrestling program took on their biggest challenge this year, going up against Neillsville-Greenwood-Loyal Dec. 22.
The Hornets wrestled without two of their athletes – senior Nelson Wahl and junior Kaleb Sonnentag.
Although Cadott wrestled well with the kids they did have on the mats, many of the matches went the way of the visiting team. As a result, the Hornets saw Neillsville take the win, 42-24.
“We learned a valuable lesson,” said coach Josh Spaeth, “and that is, we need to stay humble and continue to improve, each and every day.”
Earning big wins for Cadott, were sophomores Brayden Sonnentag (132 pounds) over Louis Nikolai, by fall, in 4:43; sophomore Tristan Drier (152) against Garrett Learman by fall, in 2:42; and Dawson Webster (195) over Dan Polzin, by 2:20 fall. Junior Gavin Tegels (220) also came up with a big win over Damian Sampson, getting the fall in just 39 seconds.
Although sophomores Nick Fasbender, Cole Pfeiffer and Kane Mengel gave great efforts, the three came up just short of victories. Fasbender (138) dropped his match against Jayme Zvolena by a 10-6 decision, while Pfeiffer (160) lost his match to Dane Luchterhand in a 7-6 decision, and Mengel (285) saw the win go to Joe Polzin by 5-2 decision.
Also dropping matches, were juniors Logan Harel (120) against Luke Dux in a 9-4 decision; and David Lallemont (145) against Keeghan Anding, by fall, in 30 seconds. Sophomore Austin Walters (170) also gave up his match against Tommy Friemoth, by fall, in 1:02, as did freshman Axel Tegels (182) against Carter Schoengarth in a 1:17 fall; and freshman Ashton Bremness (126) against Derek Zschemitz, by fall, in 15 seconds.
Freshman Lukas Simenson (106) went up against Jace Prior, but dropped the match by fall, in 1:02.
This makes the Hornets 2-1 in dual action on the year.
“It was a very exciting dual to watch,” said Spaeth. “Each team’s athletes gave a valiant effort.”
