_ Dec. 2 - An officer was dispatched to Curtiss to assist Clark County with a domestic abuse complaint. He met with a man who denied that there were any problems between him and his wife, and said he just wanted his kids. A deputy arrived on the scene and determined that the man’s wife was reporting a domestic abuse incident that had occurred in Colby.

The officer spoke to the wife, who said her husband had been physically abusing her for several days, and had taken her phone away so she could not call for help. She said he gets drunk a lot, and has hit her and pulled her hair on numerous occasions. The officer noticed bruising on her arms and marks on her face, but she declined immediate medical attention. She said their two children were the only ones to witness the abuse.

The officer informed the husband that he was being placed under arrest for domestic battery and disorderly conduct. He questioned why his wife was not going to jail, claiming that he also had injuries, but the officer did see any on him. He was taken into custody and transported to the Clark County Jail.

_ Dec. 3 - An officer was dispatched to a Colby store in reference to a retail theft complaint. He spoke to a cashier who said a regular customer had come in and walked around the aisles for about 10 minutes. The cashier noticed that a bag she was carrying appeared to be full as she was exiting the store. The cashier provided the officer with the license plate number of the suspect’s vehicle and a description of her and her clothing.

The office ran the license number and determined that the woman lived in Colby. He went to her residence and confronted the suspect about the theft complaint. She eventually admitted to stealing several items, apologized and returned everything to the officer. The officer returned the stolen items to the store, and a receipt was printed, totalling $10.91. The suspect was issued a citation for retail theft.

_ Dec. 3 - An officer was traveling southbound on STH 13 in Abbotsford when he ran the license plate of a vehicle traveling in front of him. The registered owner of the vehicle came back as having a suspended driver’s license, so the officer pulled the vehicle over.

The officer met with the driver, who said he knew his license was suspended but he had no other way of getting to work. Dispatch also reported that the driver had an active warrant out of Marathon County for a second degree sexual assault charge. The officer asked the driver if he could call someone to pick up his vehicle. With the driver’s permission, another offi cer reached into the vehicle to get the driver’s cell phone, and when doing so, the officer found a bag with marijuana residue. The driver admitted there was more inside the vehicle. A cigar package with a small amount of marijuana was also found. A vape pen was also located in the suspect’s pocket, and he admitted it contained marijuana oil.

The driver was arrested and taken to Marathon County Jail.

_ Dec. 4 - An officer received an email from a social services worker informing him that a two-month-old child had recently tested positive for methamphetatmines, cocaine and cannabis. The child’s mother had also tested positive for having drugs in her system. The officer worked with the county drug investigator to get a search warrant for the parents’ house in Abbotsford, and the social worker arranged for the children at the home to be placed elsewhere.

Officers went to the residence to execute the warrant, but no one was home at the time, so they were let in by the landlord. Multiple items of drug paraphernalia were located, including aluminum cans with marijuana residue and straws with cocaine and meth residue. The officers noted that the house smelled like urine and feces, and there was trash, dirty clothes and dirty dishes everywhere.

While the evidence was being secured, the mother showed up with her three children. She agreed to be interviewed by an officer and the social worker. She admitted to smoking marijuana in the house, but said her boyfriend was the one using cocaine and meth. The officer noticed that she kept looking at her phone, and he asked her if there was any drug-related evidence on her phone. She said no and allowed the officer to look at it. He did not find anything of evidentiary value. Her vehicle was also searched, and no other contraband was found.

The officer noted that the mother did not seem upset or surprised when the social worker said her children were being placed in temporary custody elsewhere. She was placed under arrest for child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia and taken to jail.

Officers met with the boyfriend at his place of employment. At first, he only admitted to using hard drugs once at a party at his house, and said he had no idea how a child at his house tested positive. He kept changing his story and eventually said he was done talking to the officers. A search of his vehicle uncovered a vape pen with marijuana inside. He was arrested for child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia.

_ Dec. 4 - An officer was dispatched to an Abbotsford apartment in reference to a possible child abuse incident caught on a security camera. The officer viewed footage of a teenage girl being slapped on the back of her head twice by a woman identifi ed as her mother.

An officer spoke to members of the family about the incident. He was told that the mother was worried about where her daughter was, and the daughter was not responding to her calls or text messages. The teen seemed remorseful about making her mother worry, and said the slaps only hurt momentarily. The offi cer did not believe the actions amounted to child abuse, but he warned the mother about striking her child in the future.

_ Dec. 6 - An officer was dispatched to a Colby residence in reference to female party being pushed to the ground by her heavily intoxicated boyfriend. The officer met with the female party, who said her boyfriend suffers from mental health problems and is delusional. She said they were arguing when he got in her face, and he would not back away, so she started to dial 911 on her phone but did not hit send right away.

The complainant said her boyfriend raised his fist like he was going to hit her, and then threw her phone to the ground. He then grabbed her by the wrists and tried pushing her to the ground. She was able to get her phone back, call 911 and get out of the house. She said her boyfriend likes knives and always carries them with him.

The officer and two deputies got permission from the complainant to enter the house. The boyfriend was found sitting on a toilet, drinking from a bottle of vodka. The officer also noticed several used syringes on his dresser. The suspect initially refused to come out and speak to officers about what happened. When he was told that he would be arrested, he started walking toward a knife on his bedroom floor. Officers grabbed him and directed him onto his bed. He resisted for awhile before officers were able to get handcuffs on him. He was taken into custody and transported to the Marathon County Jail.

_ Dec. 6 - An officer responded to a loud music complaint at a Colby residence. He could hear the music from outside the building, and it took a lot of knocking to get someone’s attention. The woman he met with was told to turn the volume down, which she did. She was warned that any further complaints would result in a citation.
