10 Years Ago – 2010

Paul Greene, a Cadott High School graduate, reopens what was Red’s Garden Cafe in Cornell, operating the establishment as Paul’s Cafe. As part of the new ownership, Greene remodeled the place to provide expanded seating.

20 Years Ago – 2000

The Cadott Area Historical Society is asking the community for help, as they want to document any homes that are “century houses.” The house must have been in the same family for 100 years, to fit the criteria the preservation society has set.

30 Years Ago – 1990

Lake Holcombe faculty members and cheerleaders package 175 pounds of goodies sent to area soldiers serving in Operation Desert Shield. Three boxes were mailed to Holcombe residents in the service, while the remaining four were shipped to relatives of staff.

40 Years Ago – 1980

David Jarocki, Gilman, was arrested for suspicion of stealing and burning a car owned by Cadott resident John Lavarato. It’s unknown why Jarocki allegedly acted as he did.

50 Years Ago – 1970

The United States Army Reserve is looking for a building to house their needs, after response has been exceptional at their current leased building on the corner of First and Main streets. The Reserve asked if the City of Cornell may have any land they could donate toward the Army’s efforts.

60 Years Ago – 1960

Completion is neared on the exterior of a new addition to the Arthur Dairy. The addition was built onto the east end of the plant and will be used, in part, for offices of the firm.

100 Years Ago – 1920

Frank A. Vaughan, real estate and insurance agent, offers a 10-man parcel of land for sale near Cornell. Although the price is gauged to be somewhat high at $1,150, Vaughan anticipates the property will go fast. Three acres of the land has already been cleared, with good woods located there.
