Harvey Gene Holmes, age 87, of Medford, died peacefully with family by his side on Nov. 19, 2020 under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care of Medford and Aspirus Care and Rehab Center, where he had resided for the past eleven weeks. Harvey chose to be cremated and the family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.

Harvey was born Mar. 4, 1933 in Medford to Clyde and Bernice (Faude) Holmes. He attended Pine Tree Grade School, Town of Molitor, and Hannibal High School. He entered the U.S. Air Force Mar. 27, 1952 and served until 1956. He was stationed in Texas and overseas in Goose Bay, Labrador.

Harvey married Bernice Gorichs in Waukegan, Ill., on July 23, 1957. After their marriage, the couple resided in Milwaukee where Harvey did building construction. They moved back to Medford in 1960 and Harvey did various factory jobs until going into the logging business in 1972 until his retirement. Harvey loved the outdoors by hunting, fishing, trapping, camping and kept a meticulous yard.

Harvey is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bernice; children, Gene (Laura), Paul, Jeff (Lori) and Cindy, all of Medford; grandchildren, Christopher, Melissa, Chad (Liz), Brett, Cory (Chelsea) and Clayton; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Shirley Poyda, Joan Gehrke, Ken, Gary and Clyde Holmes, all of Medford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Bernice Holmes; brothers-in-law, Art Poyda and Glen Gehrke; and nephew, Tom Holmes.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be given to the family for future designation. Cremation Society of Wisconsin is serving the family.
