It’s not just about hunting; Rushing Wind USA reaches 15 years

It’s not just about hunting; Rushing Wind USA reaches 15 years It’s not just about hunting; Rushing Wind USA reaches 15 years

Shown are the 10 youth hunters who participated in this year’s Rushing Wind USA Spring Youth Turkey Hunt, April 15-16, accompanied by mentors and volunteers. The youth stayed at Five Seasons in Willard and enjoyed meals, activities and guest speakers as part of the weekend-long event.

Rushing Wind USA is a ministry aimed at youth who want to experience hunting in God’s creation. Since 2009, RWUSA has been holding events during which youth are able to hunt with a mentor. Youth hunters from throughout Clark County and even beyond stay overnight at Five Seasons retreat center, W8830 Heintown Road, Willard, during weekend-long hunts.

RWUSA holds two youth hunt events every year: spring is the youth turkey hunt and fall is the youth deer hunt.

“We take this opportunity to reach out to youth and their family by sharing God’s love for us all,” wrote Angela Winkel of RWUSA in a press release.

Hunting is just one element of the event. Youth and mentors gather together to fellowship, listen to gifted speakers, share meals together and join in on fun activities.

Over the last 15 years, RWUSA has had 237 youth join as hunters. For many of them, it was their first time ever hunting. Some of the current mentors started as youth/ mentees in the program. This year’s Spring Youth Turkey Hunt consisted of 10 youth hunters, with two jakes harvested; and the Fall Youth Deer Hunt consisted of 12 youth hunters, with one buck and six does harvested.

“We believe in teaching the value of hunting to the youth who attend as well as helping nurture a love for the outdoors,” wrote Winkel.

All RWUSA youth hunt events are free for youth to attend and participate. For more information, contact Winkel at 715-660-6803 or RWUSAministry@gmail.com.
