Students can have the fun of shopping for Christmas
By Ginna Young
When you’re a kid, you’re kind of limited on what you can either buy or make for your parents for Christmas. It can be hard to purchase anything with them hovering behind in the store, ruining the surprise – that is, if you have the money to buy a gift – or you have to rely strictly on homemade things.
That’s why the Cornell and Lake Holcombe Camaraderie Club hosts a Holiday Shoppe, each year, at Lake Holcombe School. Students can browse the items set up in a shop format, then purchase them for $1. The gifts are then wrapped by “elves” and delivered to classrooms, for the kids to take home and place under the Christmas tree.
However, in order to accomplish all this, donations are needed to make it a success. New and gently used items for all genders, are needed from the community, such as perfume, gloves, tools, jewelry and knick-knacks.
Donations can be dropped off at the school, during weekdays, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.; the Cornell Police Department, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Cornell, Mondays only, from 9:30-11 a.m.; or by contacting Kathy Swanson, at 715-827-0065, for drop-off at 20801 State Hwy. 27, in Cornell.
No donations will be accepted after 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 22.
“The items donated for the Holiday Shoppe, allow students to experience the joy of giving and a sense of pride, that they were able to select the perfect gift for a loved one,” said coordinator Kristine Hemenway.
