Cornell School Board - Action City trip rewards kids for large increases

By Ginna Young

The school year started off with some encouraging results for Cornell, as was reported on at a board of education meeting Aug. 26. Although the Forward Exam results haven’t been mailed to the district to send home, administrators can see those results online.

That’s how they knew that 55 students, who scored at 90 percent or higher, or had an increase of 20 percentile points, were eligible to attend a fun day at Action City, paid for by the district.

“We had some real nice increases in kids that were super excited how much they increased from last year,” said superintendent Paul Schley.

Also reported, was that middle/high school principal Craig Braaten will share athletic director responsibilities with band/choir director Nick Peters, to take the pressure off just one person.

Braaten also mentioned that he is meeting with a person from juvenile intake out of Chippewa Falls, to discuss issues of truancy.

“We can make the process a little smoother for us,” said Braaten.

During the meeting, board members approved the hire of paraprofessional Rachelle Johnson.
