Each month, at Lake Holcombe School, the elementary focuses on a specific character trait, which should be demonstrated by the students. A youth who exemplifies that trait, is selected by staff as Student of the Month.

Because December’s trait is generosity, it’s only natural the elementary school would sponsor some kind of a drive to help those in need. The kindergarten class, along with the Elementary Student Council, is conducting a pet supply drive, through Dec. 20, then given to the Chippewa County Humane Association.

Donations will be accepted by classroom teachers from students, while community members can leave donations in the school office. Items needed include dog leashes, collars, Purina Dog Chow, wood pellets, non-clumping litter, bleach, chicken or turkey baby food, wet canned dog or cat food, and dog treats (no milkbones).

“We chose to try something a little different,” said kindergarten teacher Angie Vacho.
