Homecoming to culminate with a bang again this year
By Ginna Young
It’s always a big time for Cornell students to plan Homecoming festivities and this year, the week-long events of Sept. 29 through Oct. 7, are filled with fun.
The week kicks off with the king and queen crowned during Chief Time Sept. 29, followed by hallway decorating over the weekend. Then, the annual color run happens Sunday, Oct. 1, at noon, beginning at the high school parking lot. Guided by a police escort, participants should wear white for when they pass through color stations along the route.
The next day, a volleyball game of the football players vs. the volleyball team will take place during Chief Time, then, the following day, the high school athletes will read to the elementary students and each youth will receive a book, compliments of the Spirit Club.
On the following day, the students will have a powderpuff game during Chief Time, with a volleyball game the next day, featuring the winners of the exhibition game from Monday, and the staff.
To cap off the school week, a pep rally will be held Friday, Oct. 6, from 1-3 p.m., followed by a parade down Main Street, leading up to the big game with New Auburn at 7 p.m. As with last year, a large cannon will be on-hand and set off each time the Chiefs score in the match-up.
Since there were a few people who didn’t know about the cannon’s presence last year, the school wanted to make sure everyone is aware of the occurrence this time around and can prepare.
“There will be a few bangs,” said senior Grace Harycki, Student Council.
