Highway M bridge to close during day-long inspection

Travelers should plan an alternate route Wednesday, Aug. 9, as the County Hwy. M bridge, located 0.5 miles west of State Hwy. 27 over the Chippewa River in Holcombe, will be closed to traffic. The closure will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., that day.

A bridge inspection will be completed during that time, using the Wisconsin DOT reach-all truck.

The bridge’s weight limit was previously set at 40 tons, but in February, dropped to 30 tons, then went down to 20 in May, because of some structural concerns. At the time the weight limits were lowered, no plans were in place for maintenance or replacement of the structure.
