School supply donations make a difference
By Julia Wolf
Summer is in full swing, but the 2023-24 school year, is just around the corner. With the start of the school year, comes the need for supplies, to ensure students get off to a good start.
Cadott
With suggestions from Cadott School District family engagement coordinator Allison Boos, Cook & Anderson Chiropractic, and ProWeld Fab & Auto, are teaming up for a Christmas in July school supply drive, taking place through the end of July.
“They received a lot of donations in the past, but not necessarily things they needed or were most in demand,” said Ashley Anderson, Cook & Anderson Chiropractic.
The chiropractic office has an artificial tree up, decorated with tags, listing a needed item. People are invited to take a tag and return it with the unwrapped items, by the end of the month.
“Our office is looking for large, durable backpacks and wired headphones that go over the ears (not ear buds),” said Anderson. “Each tag lists the student’s age and their favorite colors.”
ProWeld is also accepting supply donations. Sign-ups for students and families who need help were held through the school. Children can receive a backpack filled with their grade specific supplies or get help with any individual item needs.
Donations can also be made directly to the Cadott School District, with the school supply lists for the 2023-24 school year included, in the July 2023 edition of The Stinger newsletter. Standard items needed include notebooks, pens, pencils, highlighters, crayons, markers, folders, binders, note cards, calculators, flash drives, glue sticks, pocket folders and headphones. Donations of non-educational supplies, such as tissues, Clorox wipes and Ziploc bags, are also appreciated.
“They can drop off at either school, starting Aug. 1,” said Rhonda Pederson, administrative assistant at the junior and senior high school.
Cornell
The Cornell School District is also accepting supplies and monetary donations to go toward supplies, for students this year.
“We will be accepting any/all types of donations,” said Paul Schley, Cornell School District superintendent.
The donations can be dropped off at the district/elementary office, during office hours. The school supply lists on the school website are expected to be updated for the 2023-24 school year, shortly.
Items on the school supply list include the basics like pencils, crayons, erasers, Kleenex, glue sticks, wide-lined notebooks and headphones.
Northwestern Bank is holding a school supply drive starting Friday, July 21, and going through Wednesday, Aug. 23. The school supplies and backpacks can be dropped off at the Cornell location, during business hours.
Lake Holcombe
The Lake Holcombe Leos Club is also hosting their annual school supply drive, to help out Lake Holcombe students.
Jane Ash, Leos Club adviser, says all supplies will be accepted during the drive, but the most needed items are thin black dry erase markers, Kleenex, headphones, glue sticks, pencils, pencil boxes, flash drives, 3x5 notecards and threering binders (3 inch and 1 1/2 inch). Financial donations to purchase supplies, will also be accepted.
The drive will take place Wednesday, Aug. 2, from 4-6 p.m., at the Lions club pavilion. If someone is unable to make the drop-off time, but would still like to donate, Ash says they can contact her, at jash32644@hotmail.com.
The school is also directly accepting donations, which can be dropped off at the school office, during open hours.
“We will take any basic supplies that anyone is willing to donate,” said Kurt Lindau, Lake Holcombe district administrator.
