A part of Cornell history has come to an end, with the moving of the DNR ranger station location out of the city. A new facility was constructed on County Hwy. S, in Jim Falls, and was put into use in February.

Dennis Hutchinson, DNR forester, says the new building is great and that they are enjoying being there. The old building, which needed major remodeling, still wouldn’t fit the bigger equipment that is now used to fight forest fires.

The new site not only provides that, all in one space, but also houses centralized staff of three to four.

As for the old station, Hutchinson said it’s up in the air how long the DNR will hold on to the forestry-owned building in Cornell, before it is “disposed of,” whether by auction or some other means.
