Cadott Village Board; Bid for LSL replacement project approved

The Private Lead Water Service Line Replacement (LSL) project is set to begin in the coming months, after the Cadott Village Board approved a bid for the project.
The project replaces lead and galvanized pipes between the curb stop and water meter, as part of a grant that covers up to $5,000 of project costs, per private service.
“It’s all on the private side,” said Len Schreiber, Cedar Corp.
The village received two bids for the project – one from A-1 Excavating, for $72,385, and one from Montana & Son Grading, for $55,000. Schreiber says he believes the village received competitive bids.
“The project tally is $55,000, which is at the maximum allowed for the grant,” said Schreiber.
With that, the grant will reimburse the cost, so there is no cost for the village or individual homeowners.
Schreiber says Cedar Corp. has not worked with Montana & Son before, but finds them to be a reputable contractor. Montana & Son has done similar work in the Altoona/Eau Claire area, for the past eight years.
“We have a tight timeframe,” said Schreiber, adding the project must be completed by the end of the year. “He’d like to get going on this as soon as possible.”
Montana Brit, of Montana & Son, says they have 100 services in Eau Claire to do. He says they normally do three or four services, per day.
Brit says, since they have 11 services to do in Cadott, they could do one or two per week. He asked that someone from the village contact the homeowner to explain the program and give them his contact information, so the homeowner can call him to set up a time.
Schreiber says they are hoping to hear from a few more homeowners with pipes eligible for replacement, that they have not heard back from yet.
“I think the sooner you can get started, the better,” said board member Randy Kuehni.
Others agreed, and voted to approve the bid from Montana & Son.
Members also approved a zone change request from a R-2 residential single-family to R-4 multi-family for Bart Chapek, at 110/112 S. Ash Street.
Chapek, owner of the building and board member, said during a public hearing on the matter, that he had land transferred to the lot from his neighboring lot, so it is large enough to house a duplex.
Following the public hearing, the zone change was approved with five in favor (Anson Albarado, Kuehni, Russ Falkenberg, Les Liptak, Eric Weiland) and one abstention (Chapek).
