Colby crowned king at Camp Randall Colby crowned king at Camp Randall

Senior quarterback and all state inside linebacker Brent Jeske kisses the gold ball after the Colby Hornets defeated the Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs Ledgers 22-7 in the WIAA D-6 state championship game in Camp Randall on Thursday. This is Colby’s fourth title in school history. Jeske scored three first half touchdowns, one on defense and two on offense, and accounted for 170 all purpose yards. Brent’s brother Andrew, a first team all-state defensive end this year, put the final nail in the coffin with a sack in the end zone late in the fourth quarter for a safety. The Hornets were making their first appearance at the state tournament since 2011, when they won a nailbiting 44-43 victory over Lancaster in the WIAA D-5 title game. The Hornets finish 2021 with a 13-1 record, and repeated as Marawood Conference champions. See full story and photos on pages 10-15.
