Cash bond set at $1 million for man accused of murdering Loyal woman
Cash bond was set at $1 million Tuesday for the 41-year-old Mosinee man charged with taking part in the murder of a Loyal woman who has not been seen since Oct. 3.
Judge Michael Kirchman set that bond amount during a Tuesday afternoon initial appearance in Clark County Circuit Court for Jesus Contreras Perez. He was formally charged with first-degree intentional homicide/as party to a crime, hiding a corpse/as party to a crime, and stalking/resulting in bodily harm.
A criminal complaint was filed against Contreras- Perez on June 7, alleging that he took part in the murder of 27-year-old Cassandra Ayon of rural Loyal. Contreras Perez and Ayon had dated in the past and had a child together, but had reportedly broken up about three weeks before her disappearance, according to the complaint. She was last seen in the early morning hours of Oct. 3 at a friend’s house in Unity. Neither her remains nor her car have been found.
Witnesses told investigators that Ayon had told them that she was afraid of Contreras Perez, and that if anything happened to her, he should be the suspect.
Contreras Perez is being held in the Clark County Jail and appeared in court Tuesday afternoon.
A preliminary hearing for Contreras Perez has been scheduled for June 23 in Neillsville.
