Abby Fest back this weekend

After taking a year off due to COVID- 19, Abby Festival is back this weekend to kick off summer with three days of food, live music and family fun.

Abbotsford’s downtown will host many of the activities, with food stands opening up at 5 p.m. on Friday, followed by the midway carnival rides and beer tent at 6 p.m.

Also, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, the Abby Festival queen will be crowned on the band stage downtown. The crown will go to the queen contestant who sold the most raffle tickets before the deadline.

Live music will follow at 8 p.m.

Saturday will open with the sixth annual soccer tournament, which will be held at a brand-new field just completed in the Schilling Meadows subdivision on North Fourth Avenue, just south of Porcupine Lane. Check-in starts at 8 a.m., and the games begin at 8:30 a.m.

A three-on-three basketball tournament will again be held at the Abbotsford High School gyms, with registration at 8:30 a.m. and games at 9 a.m.

A craft show will also open on the south end of First Street at 9 a.m. Food stands will reopen at 11 a.m., followed by the beer tent and carnival rides at noon.

Live music will be playing from noon until midnight, featuring the following bands: Rey Y Sus Dimantes, Conjumto Dezibel, Sonido Samura, J Elias La Voz De La Bachata, and DJ Tito De Yo Bailo Noortenas.

The soccer tournament championship playoffs will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday.

Line-up for the noon parade will start at 10:30 a.m. in front of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. The parade will go east down Cedar Street to Second Street, where it will head south to Spruce Street.

The carnival and beer tent will open at 1 p.m. on Sunday, and live music will be performed by Gary Green, also at 1 p.m.

Raffle ticket drawings will be held in front of band stand at 4 p.m.
