House destroyed by fire in Unity
Firefighters from Central Fire and EMS battled a blaze at the Jeremy Larocque home on Main Street in the village of Unity last Friday morning. District fire chief Joe Mueller said the fire was caused by a lit candle in a bedroom on the southwest corner of the building. The person who lit the candle was asleep when he felt heat on his back, and he was able to get out with nothing more than a singed beard. The house itself was a total loss. The fire was reported at about 7:08 a.m. and firefighters left around 11 a.m. Owen-Withee-Curtiss provided additional manpower while Stratford and Spencer offered tanker support.
