Medford Hosts GNC All-Conference
Talented young people from the seven schools in the Great Northern Conference came together in Medford on Saturday Nov. 9 for the 14th Annual All-Conference Band and Choir Music Festival.
The event featured both band and choir performances. Selected students from the schools practiced in the afternoon and gave an evening performance. Schools participating included Medford Area Senior High, Lakeland Union, Antigo, Mosinee, Northland Pines, Rhinelander, and Tomahawk.
The all-conference choir was directed by Dr. Matheus Cruz, UW-Stevens Point Director of Choral Activities. He conducts the UWSP Concert Choir and Choral Union and teaches music education. The choir was accompanied by Medford Area Middle School music teacher Becky Risch.
The all-conference band was directed by Dr. Glenn Hayes, UW-Whitewater Director of Bands professor of music education and chair of the Department of Music.
Medford had several students qualify for the 2024 All-Conference Band and Choir. All-conference band participants included: Stacey Dassow and Savannah Baxter for flute; Andrew Books for tenor saxophone; Gavin Koplin for Bari saxophone; Jaeden Brandner, Bryce Ludwig, Ayden Tyznik and Draven Dums for trumpet; and Kadence Higgins, Ethan Duellman and Rylan Stockwell for trombone.
All-conference choir participants included: sopranos Lindsay Kahn and Ellyanne Manecke, altos Hailey Murray and Alexandra Paff; tenors Christian Mahner and Atticus Winkler; and bass Gatlin Piller.
