CRASH REPORTS

On October 5, at 10 a.m., a three vehicle crash on Hwy 13 in the town of Deer Creek resulted in three people being transported for injuries and the road being closed for more than two hours. According to the crash report, vehicles operated by Robert Bednarek, 74, of Stetsonville, and Teresa Castrejonconde, 34, of Dorchester, were traveling southbound on Hwy 13. A a semi-truck with trailer operated by Anthony Mangless, 48, of Shawano, was traveling northbound. While driving, the Bednarek vehicle struck the Castrejonconde vehicle in the rear causing the vehicle to spin and swerve into the northbound lane. The operator of the semi-truck attempted to swerve to avoid the Castrejonconde vehicle but struck the rear passenger side of the vehicle causing it to spin in the other direction and enter the eastern ditch where the vehicle came to rest. Castrejonconde was cited for operating without a valid license. All vehicles were towed from the scene. In addition to law enforcement, fire and ambulance responded and the road was closed from 10:23 a.m. until 12:28 p.m. Castrejonconde was transported by ambulance to Aspirus Medford Hospital and Clinics with a suspected minor injury. A 15-year-old passenger and a 5-year-old passenger in Castrejonconde’s vehicle were also transported by ambulance to Aspirus Medford Hospital and Clinics with possible injuries.

On October 17, at 9:40 p.m., a vehicle operated Luke Lobacz, 44, of Owen, was traveling northbound on Robin Dr. in the town of Holway while approaching a T-intersection with County Line Rd. The Lobacz vehicle crossed from the northbound lane into the southbound lane of travel on Robin Dr. The operater then failed to stop at the stop sign of the intersection of Robin Dr. and County Line Rd. While driving through the intersection he failed to maintain control of the vehicle and entered the woods on the North side of Country Line Rd. According to the accident report, when the sheriff’s deputy made contact with the operator, he informed the deputy that he did not have insurance on the vehicle. After running the operator’s information, the deputy found that Lobacz had a suspended drivers license. The vehicle was towed with disabling damage. Lobacz was transported by ambulance to Aspirus Medford Hospital and Clinics. Lobacz was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign, operating left of center, operating while suspended, failure to keep vehicle under control, operate motor vehicle without insurance, and OWI (4th).

On October 13, at 8:09 p.m., a vehicle operated by Herbert Johnson, 71, of Ogema, was driving westbound on Hwy 102 in the town of Westboro. He was approaching an intersection with Hwy 13. When the vehicle reached the intersection with Hwy 13, the operator failed to stop the vehicle at the stop sign and continued driving straight, causing the vehicle to drive into the west ditch of Hwy 13. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. A passenger, Kay Johnson, 66, of Medford, was transported by ambulance to Aspirus Medford Hospital and Clinics. Johnson was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign.

On October 16, at 3:26 p.m., Medford police responded to a one vehicle crash in the parking lot of Ace Hardware involving a vehicle operated by Edwin Mohr, 66, of Medford. According to the crash report, Mohr was westbound in the lot and stopped intending to turn left at the intersection. He stated that a vehicle was eastbound in the Mc-Donald’s lot with a turn signal indication that is was also turn left (north in the lot). Mohr stated that he began his left turn and the other vehicle continued eastbound rather than turning. He stated the at accelerated to avoid the other vehicle but misjudged the turn and hit the concrete based stop sign pole. The vehicle sustained functional damage with airbag deployment.

On October 14, at 10:13 p.m., a vehicle operated by Jason Franz, 39, of Medford, struck a deer while traveling westbound on Hwy 64 in the town of Hammel. The vehicle sustained functional damage.

On October 17, at 6:45 a.m., a vehicle operated by Austin Hogan, 30, of Owen, struck a deer while northbound on CTH E in the town of Little Black. The vehicle sustained functional damage.

On October 13, at 12:05 a.m., an on-duty Taylor County Sheriff’s Office squad operated by Noah Weinke, 26, of Medford, struck a deer while westbound on CTH M in the town of Pershing. The vehicle received minor damage.

On October 11, at 6:40 p.m., a vehicle operated by Christopher Olynick, 44, of Gilman, struck a deer while westbound on Hwy 64 in the town of Ford. The vehicle sustained functional damage.
