Medford Area Community Theatre to hold auditions for ‘The Cemetery Club’
The Medford Area Community Theatre is pleased to announce auditions for their upcoming production of the comedy The Cemetery Club by Ivan Menchell.
Auditions will be held in the Red/White Theater of the high school at 7 to 8 p.m. the evenings of Monday, Dec. 6 and Tuesday, Dec. 7 with a production date of Thursday, Friday and Saturday February 10, 11, 12. The production requires 4 women and one male aged 50 to 60 and the rehearsals will be generally held Monday through Thursday evenings with ample breaks for both Christmas and New Years.
Both comic and touching, the story involves three widows who are fast friends due to the fact that they’ve known each other for many years (over 20 years to be exact) as a result of their social interactions as their husbands all knew and worked together. These three friends meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husbands’ graves in their local cemetery. Ida is sweet tempered and ready to begin a new life. Lucille is a feisty embodiment of the girl who just wants to have fun, and Doris is priggish and judgmental, particularly when Sam, the butcher, enters the scene. He meets the women while visiting his wife’s grave and is quickly attracted to Ida, much to the chagrin of her two friends. Doris and Lucille work behind the scenes to squash the budding romance between Sam and Ida. It is only when the women are forced to tell Ida what they have done that they fully realize the emotional damage they have handed her. Realizing this, they suddenly become guilt stricken when they see how this nearly breaks Ida’s heart.
Auditions will consist of cold (unprepared) readings from the script and we certainly encourage anyone, experienced or otherwise, interested in theatre to attend auditions and there is absolutely no experience required to be considered. For any other questions, please feel free to call 715-965-2792.
