Spencer Board considers adding group for those with alternative lifestyles

Spencer High students Megan Meyer and Devin Gerstner presented school board members Sept. 9 with a proposal for a new student organization focusing on sexual orientation and gender acceptance.
The students, who have held meetings during school as an unofficial organization under the leadership of teachers Kristen Lohrentz and Brad Schiferl, explained the purposes of the proposed organization, tentatively titled SAGE (Sex and Gender Education). Last summer Lohrentz asked district administrator Mike Endreas to bring the proposal to the board for discussion and possible action. The group previously used the title Gay Straight Alliance, or GSA. Meyer and Gerstner are serving as unofficial co-presidents.
