Seven Spencer seniors sport spotless 4-year GPAs
If the race for the best overall 4-year grade point average in the Spencer High School Class of 2017 had been the Kentucky Derby, the ending would have been a photo finish that took forever to sort out. As it was, the process of determining an eventual “winner” of the valedictorian honor took the school farther into its tie-breaking procedures than it has gone before.
No fewer than seven Spencer seniors posted perfect 4.0 grade point averages through the first semester of their final year at SHS: Felicia Bauer, Courtney Buss, Johanna Ellefson, Elizabeth Endreas, Cinnamin Harwood, Noah Zastrow and Katelynn Zimmerman. Ever since they started their freshmen years, each member of the elite group of students has received an “A” in every class. They did it through perseverance and diligence, said SHS principal Jason Gorst, and they were all aware of each other’s success and knew the pursuit of the top scholar title would one day come down to the splitting of hairs.
