Roehl family hosting Father’s Day Loyal breakfast
The Loyal Dairy Breakfast, sponsored by the Loyal FFA Alumni, is to be held on June 17 at Erlin and Bonnie Roehl’s farm. Located at N8349 Miller Ave., the farm has been in the family’s possession for the past 50 years, changing in its usage along the way.
Before being owned by the Roehls, Erlin said the roughly 100-year-old farm had at least three other owners, each owning the farm for about 10-15 years before it would change hands again. While the farm they now live on was busy getting new owners, Erlin grew up on a farm just down the road, going to school a few years ahead of Bonnie, who had moved to the area when she was young from Black River Falls.
“Originally (my family) lived down the road about a mile and three-quarters from here. We knew the area,” he said. “(In school) she (Bonnie) was a freshman and I was a senior. We got together somehow or another.”
Erlin graduated from Loyal High School in 1960 and joined the Army National Guard for six months, serving another year at Fort Louis, Wash., after getting called back during the Berlin Crisis. Bonnie graduated from Loyal High School a few years later in 1963 and they were married on Aug. 1, 1964.
