Loyal Main/South Street project to begin around April 1
In about six weeks, the usually peaceful atmosphere of Loyal’s downtown will come to a dusty, noisy halt. It will be then that construction crews will converge on the city for an 8-month major street reconstruction project that will rip out every piece of cement and asphalt and every water and sewer pipe under Main Street, and also rebuild South Street from the Methodist church corner west to the edge of town.
Already years in the planning stages, the state Department of Transportation’s $5.5 million Highway 98 reconstruction project through Loyal is about to begin. Crews have been working along the route through the winter to replace utility lines ahead of the main work, and the job is to begin in earnest as soon as spring arrives.
“Our planned schedule shows us starting around the first of April,” said Dave Koepp of the DOT’s Eau Claire regional office. “We plan to start on the north end of town and move southward.”
