Loyal runs mark to 11-0, takes charge in ECC race

With junior pitcher Riley Geiger controlling Spencer’s bats and the Greyhound hitters delivering a steady stream of base hits, Loyal rolled over Spencer 9-3 in an April 30 Eastern Cloverbelt Conference make-up game at Spencer to snatch sole possession of the league standings at the half-way point of the season. Loyal followed the win over previously unbeaten Spencer with a 19-6 hammering of Marshfield Columbus on Monday to improve its overall season record to 11-0.
Geiger stopped the Spencer bats cold for most of the April 30 game, allowing just two base hits and two walks. None of the three runs were earned as Loyal committed three untimely defensive errors that led to Rocket runs. Geiger struck out 12 hitters in the game -- five Rockets struck out twice each.
