Learman’s homer, strong pitching lead Indians past Colby

Greenwood sophomore Kaylee Learman threw a complete-game 1-hitter and socked a long fourth-inning home run as the Indians scored a 6-0 Eastern Cloverbelt Conference home win over Colby on May 5. It was the first league win in nearly three weeks for a young Indian team that had lost its previous five ECC games by a combined total of eight runs.
Learman was in control of the game from the start. In the second inning, she retired the Hornet line-up on just five pitches, including two first-pitch ground-outs and a 3-pitch strikeout. After giving up her lone hit -- a hot shot back through the box that banged off her leg -- Learman retired the next three hitters on two swinging strike-outs and an infield pop-out. In the fourth, she struck out two hitters looking and got the third on a tapper to the mound.
