Greyhounds on verge of clinching ECC baseball title
The Loyal baseball team has tossed its lasso over the Eastern Cloverbelt Conference championship trophy. All it has to do now is cinch the rope tight.
With offensive onslaughts powering big wins over Greenwood on May 13 and Granton on Monday, the Greyhounds ran their ECC record to 13-0 (16-0) overall, and came within another victory or two of claiming the outright league title. Loyal could have won it with a double-header sweep of Colby on Tuesday in Loyal (results not available at press time). If that did not happen, the Greyhounds play second-place Spencer in a make-up game Friday afternoon at 4:30 in Loyal.
After scraping out a hard-fought 10-8 win over Gilman on May 12, Loyal kept its momentum going with a 21-6 win over rival Greenwood on May 13. That game was moved to Loyal’s home diamond due to wet field conditions in Greenwood. The Greyhounds took another big step toward the ECC title by blistering Granton 22-0 on Monday.
