Roger Bruce Hendricks was born on June 1, 1944, in Stanley, to Anton “Tony” and Ann (nee Abramczuk) Hendricks. He was raised in the town of Mead, rural Thorp, and received his education in Thorp, graduating from Thorp High School in 1962. Following graduation, Roger studied at UW-Eau Claire, where he received a bachelor of science degree in zoology and chemistry. He moved to Minneapolis and worked at 3M and General Mills until he was drafted into the U.S. Army on May 27, 1965. He was deployed to Vietnam and served until his honorable discharge on May 5, 1967. Roger then studied at UW-Stevens Point and later transferred to UW-Madison, where he received his bachelor of science degree in pharmacy. After his pharmacy internship, he worked for Harold Krom at the Greenwood Pharmacy, which he later purchased. In 1999, Roger sold his business and then worked for K-Mart Pharmacy in Marshfield until its closing. He then worked at Pamida Pharmacy in Neillsville until a stroke and other health issues forced him into early retirement. Roger served on the board of directors for Memorial Medical Center for 16 years, was a member of the Greenwood American Legion Post #238, and owned the Hotel Gift Shop, which he later converted into apartments. He had many interests, but especially enjoyed traveling, gardening and canning, flea markets, hunting, and attending gun shows. Roger had been a firearms dealer and would set up at several gun shows with his friends.
