Abby set to award $1 million road project

With over $1 million in road and utility work planned in Abbotsford this year, the city is poised to award a seven-figure contract to a Dorchester-based construction company next week.
The city’s public works committee on Tuesday discussed a $1.1 million bid from Steen Construction to do work on several different city streets in 2015.
About $900,000 of the bid is the cost of replacing the water main and roadway on Butternut Street, from First to Third Avenue, and on Elm Street, from Fifth to Seventh Street. A block of Third Avenue, from Butternut to Spruce, will also be reconstructed.
Additional contract options for the council to consider at its April 6 meeting include $33,000 to replace a sewer line in the alley south of Butternut near Red Arrow Park, and $152,000 to resurface Seventh Street, from Elm to Linden, in front of Abbyland Foods.
