Abby council awards $1 million contract

Seventh Street in front of Abbyland Foods is one of the areas slated for reconstruction this year in Abbotsford.

Abbotsford’s 2015 construction season was set into motion Monday with the awarding of a $1 million contract for work on several different city streets over the next six months.
The city council chose to have Steen Construction of Dorchester complete all three parts of the contract, which includes water main and roadway replacements on Butternut and Third Avenue on the west side of the city and on Elm and Seventh streets on the east side.
One of the two add-ons to the base contract is a $152,000 reconstruction of Seventh Street near Abbyland Foods, which will not be covered by the $500,000 in matching funds the city is receiving from the state’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
