Diane Nelson, age 62, of Athens, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Family and friends are welcome from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Diane was born Nov. 24, 1954, the daughter of John and Maurice (Dozier) Blackwell in Rutherfordton, N.C. She was united in marriage to Donald Nelson on the hottest day of the year, Aug. 1, 1987, in Watertown.
Diane worked as a waitress for Abby Cafe and Mr. B’s, and also worked at Kmart in Medford. Diane had a voice that carried – no matter where she was in Kmart, you could hear her. Diane loved to cross-stitch and garden. Most of all, she loved animals (especially cats and dogs), and cherished her family.
Diane is lovingly survived by her husband, Don; a sister, Connie Pippin of Owen; a brother, Steven (Connie) Wilson of LaCrosse; nieces, Nichole (Christopher) Boelk of Medford, Abby Pippin of Owen and Jennifer Pippin of Owen; a nephew, Derek Wilson of LaCrosse; and many great-nieces and nephews, Austin Pippin, Dominic Pippin, Lilly Graun, Riley Renderman, Peyton Boelk and Jayce Hanson. She is further survived by a great-great-niece, Presley Pippin; four sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy Bickel, Jeanne Lapp, Sandy Nelson and Bill (Denise) Nelson; a close friend, Grace; and many Nelson nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Maurice; her father-in-law and mother-in-law; Harold (Bernice) Nelson, and a brother-in-law, Larry Nelson.
In Diane’s memory, the family will be planting a tree.
