Thomas “Tom” D. Strama
Thomas “Tom” Dale Strama, 86, of Medford, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019. Interment of his cremains will take place at a later date. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 11 a.m. with Father McConnell officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday until the time of the mass.
Tom was born on May 13, 1933 in Chicago, Ill. to the late Stanley and Josephine Strama. He attended Molitor Elementary School and, after graduating from Medford High School, joined the U.S. Navy. He married Sabina Miller on April 11, 1959. Soon after he bought Strama’s North Star Gas Station from his father, Stanley Strama. In 1969 they added on Strama’s Restaurant to the business. Tom along with his brother, Jim Strama, had a ginseng farm for several years as well. He enjoyed skiing, golfing, swimming, fishing, hunting, gardening, but most of all his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Medford VFW.
Tom is survived by is loving wife of 60 years, Sabina; their five children, John (DeDe) Strama, Joseph C. (Jan) Strama, Mike (Melanie) Strama and Amy (Tim) Hughley, all of Medford, Kris (Tim) Raymond of Cambria; 11 grandchildren, Danielle (Patrick) Lin, Marc (Mallori) Strama, Megan (Jesse) Laher, Mary Courteny, Raya (Dave) Thomas, Morgan (Luke) Stencil, Jeffrey (Brittney) Raymond, Taylor (Darin) Weiks, Joshua Hughley, Matthew (fiancée Camille) Raymond and Jared Hughley; eight great-grandchildren, Aubri and McKenzie Lin, Dixie and Bowen Stencil, Christian Strama, Annalee Laher, Willa Weiks and Ryker Raymond. He is further survived by Mary (John) van der Hagen of Leander, Texas, Joseph M. Strama, Bruce (Jayne) Strama, Arlene Strama and Shirley Jacobson, all of Medford, Cheri Eden of Eau Claire and Jim Olson of Kerrville, Texas.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim Strama and Richard Jacobson; sisters, Janet Jordan and Louise Olson; sister-in-law, Judy Strama; and brother-in-law, Herb Jordan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care of Medford.
