Samuel “Sam” J. Jentzsch, 71, of Lake Mills, formerly of Holmen, died peacefully on Friday, Oct. 4, 2019 at the Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Care Center with his wife Linda by his side. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11 at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Friday at the church until the time of service.
Sam was born on April 15, 1948 in Merrill, the son of the late Harold and Hazel (Seefeldt) Jentzsch. He grew up in the Medford area where he attended Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Grade School. He attended Clear Lake High School and graduated in 1966. He later received his bachelor’s degree from UW-Superior, taught English at Medford High School from 1970-1973, and went on to earn his masters in education degree at UW-River Falls. Prior to retirement he had been a high school guidance counselor for 32 years at the Holmen High School from 1974-2006. Sam married Linda Benson on June 10, 1972. He was a member of the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. Sam enjoyed reading and prior to chronic pain in his back he was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing and golfing.
Sam is survived by his wife, Linda; two daughters, Alison (Ryan) Hackbart of Poynette and Ashley (Casey) Kelleher of Whitewater; four grandchildren, Brett Hackbart, Brynn Hackbart, Kya Kelleher and Natalie Kelleher; one brother, Jason (Nancy Peterson) Jentzsch of Milwaukee; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents Sam was preceded in death by one brother, Kurt Jentzsch; and one sister, Rachel Gould.
