Raymond “Ray” M. Olejnichak
Raymond “Ray” M. Olejnichak, 84, of Gilman, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 5 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman with Father Madanu Lourdu officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Catholic Cemetery in Gilman. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Ray was born on April 27, 1935 in McHenry, Ill., the son of the late Michael and Cecilia (Schaefer) Olejnichak. His family moved to the Gilman area in 1945 and Ray went on to graduate from high school in 1953. Ray entered the Army and served three years while stationed in Mannheim, Germany. He returned from overseas and married his high school sweetheart, Sylvia Barnett on Aug. 3, 1957 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman. Ray had a number of professions over the years, including, farming, selling insurance and real estate, over the road trucking, excavating, driving school bus and also owned several businesses in the Gilman area.
Ray is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sylvia; three children, Patti (Jim) Czahor, Larry (Linda) Olejnichak and Jeffery Olejnichak, all of Gilman; eight grandchildren, Matt (Jana) Czahor, Joseph (Mollie) Czahor, Andrew (Kassi) Czahor, Vicki (Dustin) Zach, Katherine (Tyrone) Olejnichak, Michelle (Dennis) Matthias, Mark (Heather) Olejnichak and Jessalynn (Jesse) Gettler; 20 great-grandchildren, Raejana, Lauren, Nadia, Easton, Emmie, Dorothy, Lexi, Olivia, Carter, Sawyer, Gavyn, Cohen, Talyn, MyKell, Mya, Brody, Cash, Cecilia, Taylorlynn and John; one brother, Jerry (Pat) Olejnichak, of Medford; and one sister, Bernice Krizan of Stanley.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a sister in infancy, Juliana.
Plombon Funeral Service of Gilman assisted the family with arrangements.
