Delmar Oscar Olson, 80, passed away at his home in Coos Bay, Ore. on March 30, 2019.
Delmar was born on June 21, 1938 in Bloomer to Palmer and Miannatta (Wiggins) Olson. He married Judy Cogan on Dec. 29, 1960. Together they had six children. They later divorced.
Delmar is survived by his six children, Della, Delmar, Jr., Robert, Johnny, Judy and Roger; brothers, Palmer Olson of Indiana, Jerry Olson of Mankato, Minn., Elmer (Debbie) Olson of Medford; and sisters, Jo (Jerry) Poncek and Barbara Olson of Chelsea.
Delmar was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Ronald Olson, brother, Melvin Olson; infant brother, Robert Olson; and sisters, Patricia Hajdziona and Mary White.
Delmar’s family moved to Kenosha in 1942 and to Chelsea in 1946. He attended Chelsea and Westboro schools and then went on to help run the family farm. He joined the army and made a military career serving 20 years. He was with the engineers and was one of the many people who built the helicopter pads and runways for planes in Vietnam. Delmar was stationed in many places including California, Georgia, Alaska, Germany, France, Massachusetts, Maryland and Washington D.C. He served as one of the military personal that stood guard at the Rotunda for President Kennedy in 1963. When his military career ended, he moved to Coos Bay, Ore. He met his second wife, Crete Kincaid. They married on Jan. 20, 1986 and she preceded him in death in 2014. He worked at various jobs around the Coos Bay area. He had battles with cancer and heart disease. He worked with the homeless and visited a nearby nursing home as much as possible. He liked helping out people less fortunate then himself. A memorial service was held on April 20, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Coos Bay, Ore. His crematal remains will be sent to Medford for burial at the Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.
