Alojz “Butch” Kowal

Alojz “Butch” Kowal, 76, formerly of Gilman, died on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Hammond Health Services. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 6 at the Gilman Funeral Home with Father Madanu Lourdu officiating. Visitation will be one hour earlier on Saturday morning. Inurnment will take place in the Roosevelt Cemetery in Lublin.
Butch was born on Jan. 23, 1943 to the late Joseph and Louise (Mravik) Kowal. He grew up in the Gilman/Lublin area and later moved to Chicago, Ill. He worked many jobs there until returning in the early 70s and farmed south of Gilman for many years.
Butch is survived by his daughter, Brenda Boe of River Falls; two grandchildren, Brandon (Madeline) Boe and Kaitlyn Boe; 11 sisters, Josephine Pizzi of Abbotsford, Bernadine Kowal of New London, Margaret (Don) Shere of Lena, Ill., Veronica (Roger) Nichols of Mount Pleasant, Theresa (Jim) Plastina of McHenry, Ill., Mary Ann (Gordon) Dietzler of Gilman, Virginia (Bill) Bishop of Fremont, Angeline (Earl) Feltner of Tampa, Fla., Rosella (Steve) Strnad of Lake Elsinore, Calif. and Alberta Kowal of Elk Grove Village, Ill.; one brother, Joseph Jr. (Kathy) Kowal of Franklin Park, Ill.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his twin brother, John and youngest sister, Charlotte Schab.
