The Stratford High School wrestling team opened up its 2014-15 season with a big victory over rival Edgar on Thursday, 47-21, then went on to win the Schoenherr Duals on Saturday.
“That was a huge win,” Stratford head wrestling coach Joe Schwabe said. “It was a tough dual to start the season out with, but it kept us training hard to get ready.”
The action started out at 152 pounds and Edgar grabbed the lead early and hung onto it through the heavyweight match, but Stratford bounced back and won seven consecutive matches, from 106 to 145 pounds, to take the dominating win.
“The draw to start the night came at an area where Edgar is pretty solid,” Schwabe said.
