Raider boys win sectional, Tiger girls also advance
The Marathon High School boys and the Stratford High School girls cross country teams both earned a trip to the WIAA Division 3 state cross country meet after Friday's sectional at Erbach Park, Athens.
Marathon won the boys' sectional title with 42 points. Team members include Xavier Lechleitner, Jordan Balz, Satchel Beranek, Justin Schwarting, Jordan Dodson, Silas Beranek and Matt Matel.
Joining them at state from the sectional will be the Columbus Catholic boys team as well as Athens' Joshua Langteau , as well as Stratford's Cade Lehman.
The Stratford boys team placed third while Athens was seventh and Edgar placed 10th.
On the girls' side of the meet the Phillips girls won the sectional title while Stratford placed second. Both team will race at the state meet on Saturday, Nov. 1, at The Ridges Golf Course, Wisconsin Rapids. Stratford scored 96 points while Phillips had 48. Stratford team member include Johnelle Miner, Kaylee Hollatz, Courtney Krall, Sammy Griesbach, Gabby Leonhard, Samantha Kaiser and Bailey Bohman.
The Marathon girls placed third but had two runners qualify for state. They are Anna Buchberger and Alysha Stieber. Athens' Autumn Wickman also advanced to state.
The Edgar girls team placed sixth and Athens finished ninth.
