Down to a Hail Mary

NOT IN MY HOUSE –– Cadott senior Bryce Boyea blocks a Fall Creek opponent Feb. 28, during the first round of Regionals. Coming down to the final seconds, the Hornets surrendered to the Crickets, 57-54, ending Cadott’s 2016-17 season. (Photo by Kayla Peche)

The first round of Regionals for the Cadott Hornets Boys Basketball team was intense to say the least Feb. 28, as the scoring stayed close between the Hornets and Fall Creek.

With a back-and-forth battle, Cadott took the lead with 2 minutes, 35 seconds, to go in the first half, after senior Bryce Boyea stole the ball, faked to the basket and passed to his classmate, Bryce McChesney, who earned the 23-20 lead. By halftime, Cadott still held on by one point.

In the second half, the Hornets slowed down on scoring, because head coach Brandon Mittermeyer says Fall Creek took advantage of tough situations. Mittermeyer was called for a technical foul at 13:45, bringing the crowd into an uproar. Cadott was down by 10 with 9 minutes left, but things started to pick up.
