Cornell Ice Fishing club finishes first year at State
“It came about from a football game,” said head coach Chad Spegal, of how the Cornell Ice Fishing Club got its start.
That may seem like a strange way to begin an ice fishing club, but Spegal says that’s what happened last fall, after a couple of Cornell students saw a trailer that said Unity Ice Fishing team.
Loving to fish, the kids – Jordan Spegal and Tanner Stephens – started talking and thought the Cornell School District needed their own club. They convinced C. Spegal to coach, along with assistants Don Stickney and Keith Stephens.
