LaVerne R. Falkenberg

LaVerne R. Falkenberg, 80, Jim Falls, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017, surrounded by family after a courageous battle against esophageal cancer.

LaVerne was born Nov. 5, 1936, to Carl and Rose (Jiskra) Falkenberg.

He graduated from Cadott High School in 1956.

LaVerne married the beautiful Caroline Dressel May 18, 1957, and together, they moved to the Twin Cities, Minnesota, where LaVerne started his 30-year career with the Armour Dial Corporation.

After living in the Twin Cities for 19 years, LaVerne and Caroline, along with their four children, moved to a farm outside of Jim Falls.

When LaVerne was not working, he loved spending time with family, farming, attending estate sales and auctions, and baking banana bread.

He is survived by his children – Ronald (Vickie) Falkenberg, Kathy (Tom) Turany, Karen (Barry) Bergum and Kim (David) Faber; 10 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; siblings – Eugene (Betty), Muriel (special friend, Gary) Rose, Evie (Howard) McAvoy, Ernie (special friend, Janet), Carl (Judy), Beverly (Richard) Paulsen, Rodger (Donna), Maggie Fincham, Mary Ann (Larry) Lemmo, Donna (Gary) Loring, Jan (Kevin) Westerman, Bill (Janice), Leslie and Dawn (Greg) Gardner; mother-in-law – Doris Dressel; brothers-in-law – Richard (Pat) Dressel and Bruce (Kathi) Dressel; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife – Caroline; parents; brother – Joe Falkenberg; brother-in-law – Bob Rose; and father-in-law – Anthony Dressel.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at New Hope Assembly of God Church in Cornell, with Pastor Dan Gilboy officiating.

A memorial visitation will be from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery or Chippewa Falls Meals on Wheels.

Borton-Leiser Funeral Home in Cornell is assisting the family.
